DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP
Create a series of monotypes in a sequential manner using the woodcut techniques of inking and engraving but also painting, stencils and paper cutting and tearing.
Julianna Joos lives and works in Montréal (Canada). She has been a printmaker for forty years, creating mostly etchings, woodcuts and digital prints at Atelier Graff. Since 2004 she has added digitally created Jacquard weavings, then digital printing on fiber; her art making has gradually become multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary. She has presented over twenty solo exhibitions, the most recent ones were held at la Galerie d’art du Parc à Trois-Rivières in 2014, at la Galerie du Rift in Témiscamingue in 2013. Her works have been selected for more than two hundred international juried group shows. She has completed a Master’s degree, an MFA, at the Université du Québec à Montréal (1996) and presently teaches printmaking at Dawson College. She has won two major international prizes:

WORKSHOP PLAN
Day One:
. preparing wood for printing : sanding, brushing
. inking and printing
. experimenting with different monoprinting techniques : painting, stencils, use of leftover ink
. engraving
Day Two:
. more printing and engraving
. more painting, stencils
. adding tearing and cut-out
. organising a sequence
Materials Supplied by Participants:
Sketchbook, drawing pencils, carving tools ( at least 3 : cutter, fine V and large U) shaped, paper (10 sheets, 40 x 60 cm approx), X-acto knifes with small blades, old bristle brushes
Materials & Equipment Supplied by Impress
Rollers, spatulas, metal wire brush, relief presses, self-healing cutting mats, drying racks
Woodblocks (30 x 40 cmm approximatively, 1 for each participant to have them all at the same thickness), water based relief ink (1 can of black), rags, cleaning substances, newsprint, fine wood sandpaper.
