Ok how do you do it? When you book the studio to start working on your masterpiece how do you prepare for it before, during and after? Do you establish the wet & dry area? Do you cut your paper before & soak overnight? Perhaps you bring your own inks & specialist hair dryer or some other piece of equipment. During the last members day we conversed about how we as individuals do things in the studio & it seemed as though we all started off with the best intentions & why wouldnt you? It's on! Some prepped entirely the day before came to the studio with a specific focus & got stuck in methodically. Others were most clear that their immersion was intuitive & they worked on several things (if thats possible) with inks rolled out & prints simultaneously added to & viewd on the floor! Then if another person is in the studio it adds a further dimension to the whole process. At Impress studios a while ago i came accross Silda one of our members screenprinting & she was well prepared because she had notes from a prior workshop in front of her to refer to as she did her screens as well as the items to print on, apron etc She was going to print onto bags & was all set as she followed all the steps..but...
Not long after she ran into problems with the design & short of phoning a friend, she was able to speak to others hanging around the studio for advice...theres lots of possibilites why things dont work & having people around gives you a few options to solve the problem. It takes all sorts in this printmaking mallarkey.. and soon enough you will find yourself sharing your experiences too. Happy days... You can find Silda (she really is super) on instagram as well as her etsy shop SANATcraft ![]() Members Day here at last folks. Save Saturday 21 February,2015 for a fantastic day of print. Come in & stay awhile, use the presses & check out the studio! Ever wondered whether you were setting the press in the right way for your prints? This and more helpful hints when you work in the Impress Studio with lino afficionado Wayne Singleton. Wayne will be offering tuition as you print as well as conducting an artist talk in the afternoon. All you have to do is bring your lino (cut or uncut), paper & your regular kit bag of printing equipment and then get stuck in! This event is free but you need to RSVP to me so i can get some idea of how many to prep for. Please email Karen or message us on the Impress Facebook page Well hello there & welcome to "Ipsg pages"our new studio & gallery blog . On reflection 2014 was a busy year indeed. Firstly to celebrate what has been & gone i invite you to view all that has happened in the past year at Impress. Having a new studio has meant we were able to accomodate our own exhibitions in our Impress Gallery. Massive shows such as Regenerate the inaugeral members show, Vie de Pacific a showcase of print works from Pacific rim countries, Vario + as well as the annual members show & various independant exhibitions have been shown successfully to a receptive audience. Partnering print related artist's talks, demonstrations & workshops ensured some exciting buzz during the opening festivities. Our workshop programs have brought in new members & promoted the facility very well and our membership have started to inhabit the studio & use the myriad of presses to create prints. We have augmented the screenprinting area & are now monitoring its use by members in terms of work flow. The centre of the studio once empty now has a suitable work table & each specific area is coming into fruition. It's good to take a moment to stop & take it all in & to thank all the volunteers who as a community of die hard members made this happen. Lets celebrate & move on to an even more successful 2015. |
