Jennifer Long
Art has been a lifetime pursuit for Brisbane visual artist Jennifer Long. She is drawn to many, varied sources and her images of landscape, people, objects and architecture reflects this. She works in a range of media – oil painting, etching, drawing, collage and 3D paper bowls – exploring a range of mark making to express disparate ideas. References are gleaned from connections between places and objects, past and present, real and imagined.
In 1973 Jennifer received a BArts degree with studies in Fine Art at the University of Queensland. In 1976-77 she undertook a Diploma of Art at the Queensland College of Art. She has done life drawing and painting workshops with Betty Churcher and Roy Churcher, Mervyn Moriarty and Irene Amos. She studied painting and life drawing with David Paulson at QCA and the Brisbane Institute of Art. In the last three years she has done painting, print and lithography workshops with Elizabeth Cummings, Judy Watson, Peter Lancaster, Claudia Husband and Christopher Hagen. Since 2010 she has pursued etching at the BIA with Wim de Voss, Carolyn McKenzie Craig and now in 2015/16 with Gwenn Tasker.
She has won a number of art prizes(see below) and has work in corporate and private collections across Australia, France and USA.
She is a member of the Brisbane Institute of Art, Visionaries, Impress Printmaking Studio, QAGOMA and the Flying Arts Alliance. Her website www.jenniferlong.net showcases her art as does her artist’s page on Facebook.
Jennifer exhibits regularly in solo and group exhibitions, working daily in her studio and is available for commissions and workshops.
