Description of Workshop
Wood engraving is a form of relief print that enables the creation of exquisitely detailed, yet graphic images, usually on a small scale. Prints can be produced without a press and using only a small number of specialised tools, so it is suitable for those without a large studio space or budget

Workshop Plan
Day 1 morning – introduction, discussion of history and design strategies, viewing examples. Preparation of blocks and drawing image.
Day 1 afternoon. Carving block
Day 2 morning. Demonstration of printing, proofing images
Day2 afternoon – finishing carving, final prints
Materials/tools/equipment to be supplied by participants: Fine black pen

Bio of Tutor Peter McLean
Peter McLean is a Canberra based artist with a deep affinity for nature and the environment. He first studied biology and ecology and worked in science and conservation, and later studied printmaking at the ANU School of Art. Working across a range of printmaking techniques, his work explores our physical, emotional and spiritual relationships with place. More info petermclean.com.au
