Description of Workshop
Participants will learn techniques for printing onto a range of textiles, including silk, linen, cotton and hemp. You will also learn about inks and their properties, and how to adapt printmaking techniques for textiles.
Workshop Plan
Day 1:
Printing fundamentals: screens, squeegees, setting up for printing, properties of paint.
Stencil making: hand cut stencils
Stencil making: designing for photoemulsion screens
Preparing screens with photoemulsion.
Techniques for Printing multiples on fabric or canvas.
Day 2:
Designing for photoemulsion screens, exposing screens with photoemulsion in sun or UV light to reveal images.
PM: printing session- printing images from prepared screens and other work created during day 1.
Minimum number of participants: 8
Materials to be supplied by Tutor or Impress Printmaker's
Photo-emulsion, transparencies, light weight easy cut stencil paper. Metallic, flouro and opaque printing inks. printing retarder and synthetic additives for inks, packaging tape, eucalyptus oil, boards, sponges and glass, black cloths for exposing screens, additional drawing, measuring and cutting tools and equipment, transparent plastic sheets, black paper, opaque markers and light resistant inks and paints. Iron, ironing board, table covers for printing. Extra photocopying as needed and notes for each student.
Screens, squeegees, inks, retarder, rags, methylated spirits for cleaning glass.
Materials to be supplied by Participants
rags, pencil and eraser, black felt tipped pen,
1 mm or larger felt tipped markers
black and white drawing materials such as ink and brush, pens.
A4 or A3 sketchbook with or for for design ideas,
disposable or rubber gloves,
ice cream container and 2 takeaway size containers with lids.
4 rags,
scalpel blade and cutting mats
2 plastic cake cooking spatulas.
2 metres of material and/ or ready made items to be printed onto at workshop.
an apron to wear: the inks stain clothes.
Please wear closed in shoes and tie hair back.black drawing materials –

Nancy Brown is a well respected artist and printmaker who has worked in the arts industry for many years . She is very experienced with a focus on incorporating large scale printed textile, ceramic, and community projects.We are delighted to have her back in our studio for these workshops.
