Introduction to Intaglio with Christopher Hagen
This workshop will provide an introduction to intaglio printmaking, including drypoint (non-etched) methods, with a focus on line etching. The use of grounds for hard-edged, pen-like lines and softer pencil-like lines will be instructed.
Advanced intaglio techniques such as textural soft ground, tonal aquatint and mezzotint may be discussed if desired. The course will focus on approaches to building tonality with multiple etches. Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th February 2016 COST: $260 Members / $280. Non members

Workshop PlanDay 1 - Intro and Plate Preparation
- Brief lecture on intaglio origin and history - Plate preparation (beveling edges and de-greasing) - Demo and discussion of physicall dry-point techniques - Discussion and demo of hard and soft-ground applications - Planning etches for line weight and value - Paper prep, damp packs, and printing demo Day 2 - Printing, Colour and Looking Ahead - Discussion of inks, composition and modification - Detailed printing demo and editioning guidance - Guided work time - Examples of advanced techniques About Chris
Chris is an American-born artist who holds an MFA from Illinois State University, as well as training from the Tamarind Institute of Lithography. Chris specialises in intaglio and lithography printmaking, and has worked with edition priners in Illinois and Minneapolis, and has instructed in America and Australia.

What to bring:
Apron, notebook/visual diary, printing paper, any personal etching tools if desired.

Participants are advised to wear closed in shoes, suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting ink on. Tie long hair back, wear goggles, masks where appropriate. Follow instructions given by your tutor during your workshop.
