This workshop correlates various methods of mono-printing with the processes of soft-ground etching. The activities will focus on a range of graphic techniques allowing for linear, tonal and textural interpretations of the printed image.
Alan Owen is a Master Printmaker and artist with a diverse practice over many mediums, who has taught Printmaking at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University for many decades. As an artist he is listed in Australia's Printmakers in the 1990's by Sasha Grishin and is represented in many prestigious collections. As a lecturer, he has contributed to the formal education of most printmakers currently working in Queensland and elsewhere. His artwork and skill as a teacher is most admired and appreciated by his former students who have been privileged to receive a share of Alan's knowledge and caring attitude.

· Additive & subtractive processes.
· Impressions from found materials.
· Registration & multi-plate printing using colour.
· Review work completed or in progress.
· Discuss activities for following day.
SUNDAY

· Transfer of preliminary drawing using selected tools.
· Etching the plate in progressive stages.
· Developing the image using linear, tonal and textural methods.
· Proofing and printing.
· Editioning conventions.
· Review and discussion of work completed.

Bring at least one preliminary image…
a drawing/sketch/design/photograph or collage. Dimensions: 11.5 x 15.0 cms to fit supplied etching plate.
(Either portrait or landscape format).
Please scan or photocopy this image at least 4 times - centred on A4 copy paper.
Also bring flat, small-scale found objects, textured materials, fabrics or natural forms.
Eg. Leaves, bark, foil, mesh, string, gauze, lace
A4 sketch book or visual art diary (optional)
Protective clothing or apron

Etching needle (can be improvised using pointed tools)
Pencils - 2B, 4B, 6B etc.
Biros, fine-point/marking pens,
