ETCHING WITH AQUATINT & SUGARLIFT
with Glenda Orr and Gwenn Tasker

Sunday 20th April 10am-4pm

Impress members $85, non-members $100 including materials

Aqautint is a valuable technique for creating areas of tone and blacks. Sugarlift provides a unique method of creating painterly marks and outlines for tone. With sugarlift it is possible to create positive tonal areas which is a more direct method for creating an image than via blocking out and aquatint. Scraping, burnishing and sandpapering the plate to subtly lighten tones will also be taught. Achieving tonal gradation through aquatint spray adjustment will be demonstrated. Examples of how the technique has been used by a range of artists will be shown.

Glenda Orr and Gwenn Tasker have recently graduated from QCA with Bachelor of Fine Art degrees. Glenda completed her Honours year in 2007 and Gwenn will finish in 2008. They both specialise in etching and have won various art prizes for their prints. They have participated in numerous group shows in Brisbane and regional Queensland, and have shown in exhibitions in Hong Kong, Paris, Shanghai and Toronto.
