Artist Bios:
Evelyne Upton

Growing up in an artistic family in Switzerland where my aunt is well known for her paintings, folk-art on furniture, as well as murals in public and corporate places, has allowed me to be around Art from a young age.

Arriving in Melbourne in 1971, and traveling before finally settling in Brisbane, has influenced my appreciation of the vibrant colors and imagery in this country so very different from the one I was born in..

While working as a watchmaker, I kept in touch with the arts through evening courses and weekend workshops.

Finally in 1998, the opportunity to cut back my work hours presented me with enough time to join the 'Brisbane Institute of Art'. There I studied painting, drawing, print-making and ceramics.

In 2000, clay became my medium for artistic expression.

From 2000- 2004 I studied for and obtained the Advanced Diploma of Ceramics at the South bank Institute of TAFE, Brisbane, QLD,

2005 I entered and was accepted to exhibit my sculpture “Silent Majority” at the 24th Gold Coast International Ceramic Art award.

Finally my interest in the printmaking medium has resurfaced and this is transferred to both the clay object and the paper. I love the accidental results which can happen unexpectedly with the print medium.
Current studies at Griffith University Queensland College of Art have allowed me to investigate and advance my knowledge in Printmaking, which has remained my passion.
