Deductible Gift Recipiency

Impress Printmakers has recently been registered as a deductible gift recipient organisation with the Australian Taxation Office and is currently seeking tax deductible donations from individuals, businesses and corporations to help us achieve our objectives.

Anyone wishing to donate to Impress Printmakers Studio Brisbane inc. can now do so online with the announcement of a new online donations facility. Media Release (PDF)

Since February 2004 a dedicated group of Brisbane printmakers have donated their time on a voluntary basis and built this organisation from the ground up. Thanks to this very generous helping of volunteerism, Impress now has a strong foundation on which to develop further. We have developed a temporary printmakers access studio in Camp Hill. Our community workshop programs have been highly successful and popular with schools, organisations and individuals. A number of art teachers are now also accessing the workshops as a good opportunity for professional development. Our exhibition program is providing local, national and international exposure opportunities for emerging artists. Impress has also developed into a community minded organisation and has initiated community projects and a work experience program for tertiary students.

One example of our community involvement was our 2005 touring exhibition titled On a Roll, developed to celebrate the 100th anniversary for women and the 40th anniversary for Indigenous people's right to vote in Queensland. This project was a huge success and has toured venues in South East Queensland including the Australian Catholic University at Banyo. In July 2006 the exhibition heads south to the Australian Catholic University in Sydney. Folio boxes of the prints are now in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Queensland State Library James Hardy Collection, Artspace Mackay, Griffith University and James Cook University in Townsville.

Whilst we have come a long way over the last 2 years through our own efforts, we have reached a point where the need for our services has outstripped the equipment we have managed to acquire. We are urgently in need of extra equipment to support the further development of our workshop, community and exhibitions programs and to continue providing access to the growing number of emerging artists now using the equipment in our studio. We are also outgrowing our current venue and need a permanent site of at least 200 square metres.

We would be most grateful for donations of equipment, property or cash.

Under the Federal Government's Workplace Giving Program regular payments can be deducted from an employee's pay by an employer. Employers under this program can disregard the gift amount from the gross salary when calculating PAYG tax to be withheld from an employee's pay. This means that employees get the immediate benefit of the reduced tax for their gift immediately in their pay.

For more information on the Workplace Giving Program contact the Australian Tax Office on 132866.

Donations to the Impress gift fund must be gifts donated voluntarily. The following types of donations are tax deductible -

  • Cash donations over $2.
  • Property valued by the tax office at more than $5,000. (Property has a wide definition and includes physical things including rights and interests. It does not include gifts made under a will.)
  • Property purchased during the 12 months before the gift is made.
  • Trading stock disposed of outside the ordinary course of business.
  • Cultural gifts.
